1912 Hupmobile

...striped this little 1912 Hupmobile  car this morning for Roger Hadfield, father of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. He lives in Milton , and I missed meeting Chris by about 1 hour. His dad has a 10 -20 car collection of Rolls-Royce & Bentleys and real early cars .

Smaller nose arts

...finally finished a couple of smaller nose art  panels today. The Indian head panel is not quite historically correct as it is the 421 Squadron, which was a Spitfire squadron , and the panels are modelled after a Lancaster rivet spacing. The pilot, E. Parsons , was with KB 701, the 2nd Lancaster built in Malton, and was killed when it went down on maneuvers.

The Moose panel is proper in that it was the 419 squadron emblem, and the pilot , was lost with KB 710, VR-W, on a 120 aircraft attack on Louvain, Belgium .

projects

....well the black & olive drab is done on the nose art, now I just have to make up my mind what to paint on it ! It's big ...65" X 45"......and I finished the school desk. It's got "coat hanger cobwebs" , eyeball washers , copper feet , and I pinstriped the seat to look like upholstery. busy,busy,busy

...been a crazy summer...REALLY want ot get back on my next "nose art" ....it's all riveted , just waitin' for putty primer, & paint.....I've got another school desk on the go also, it's waiting for some welded rod cobwebs. Went to the Oshawa show for the first time...nice spot for a show , right on the waterfront.....so I told them I'd like a vendor spot for next year....I've been stockin' up on thrift store items to do over the winter...if things slow down ! I'm going up to Ottawa on the weekend of the 16th...there's a end of year show at the Hazeldean Mall on that day. Here's a few pics of some of the things I've been workin' on....

another nice collection...

I mentioned in the previous post about the Doornekamp collection...not quite as big as the Tackaberry one but still impressive. His latest project is a 1919 White fuel truck that I'm lettering up as a White Rose fuel truck. I got about 1/2 of it done & have to get back soon to finish it up. Not shown in the pics are the boxes that go on the sides. It will be a nice little truck when it's finished.

Spent this past Saturday at the BIG show down at Fleetwood near London. Over 2000 cars,.....the guy has the car show right at his estate, had several celebrities there....I talked to George Barris "King of the Kustomisers" for about 15 minutes. He even hired the Harvard aerobatic team to put on a show . I got some pics of a Top Fuel dragster that I lettered up a while back..

finally...time to write

finally getting around to posting.....I've been busy...went up to the Autowonderland's "open house" up in Ottawa back in May, then got in a day's visit with Ma Guertin....my visits with her are NEVER long enough......then spent 2 days working at the Tackaberry collection in Athens, then 1 day working at the Doornekamp collection at Odessa ...then got back home to find out that work had been piling up back here !! The Tackaberry collection is really something to see, I was in 5 different buildings and counted 169 restored vehicles, mostly International trucks, Mack trucks, Cadillacs, farm Tractors, etc. That's not counting the snowmobiles & motorcycles. Here's a few pics  

Michael's new bike

finished up my son's bike today ,   I told michael I'd put a Rat Fink on it for him and he came up with the "Ratmobile" name.

pinup noseart

Finished the riveting today, this thing is big, 65"  X  45". There's a grand total of 614 pop rivets in this one, now I have to build a wood frame to stiffen it up before I start puttying it.

And here's a few thigs I've been working on , a 49 Chev panel van for the Welder people,and a couple of big rigs.

been busy !

Got another 167 pop rivets put into the "nose art" today, have to work on it in the garage so it finally warmed up enough to work out there. I've been busy doing Big Rigs lately ,there's a new bodyshop opened up south of me and the guy is trying to get a bunch of trucks for me to do , I've done about 8 for him already. 2 or 3 to do this week. Car show season is starting soon, I'll have to figure out which shows I'm going to go to and let you all know.

new "nose art"

Started my 2nd nose art today, this one's going to be a pinup girl, not a historical one ,just one I make up. I'll do the same rivet pattern as the Lancaster, maybe next time I'll try to get in to measure up the Halifax at the RCAF Museum in Trenton. Did 157 rivets today, this one is going to be about 16" deeper so it'll be pretty close to 6' square.
