Detroit '08

...spent 3 days at Detroit , 1 breadbox went thru the auction and got $ 75, the other went thru 2 hours later and got $ 150. It all depends who's sittin' in the stands ! I did about 5 panels down there and 1 propeller blade. Some guy showed up from a company that makes propellers, and he picked a couple out of the scrap bin at work & brought them in for us to stripe. I striped and lettered the one in the pic, and Ian from Toronto did the eyeball. It's solid aluminum and went thru for $ 350.

My wife was cruisin around the net and found this.  Handy girl to have around, my wife... It seems that the people over at Digi-llusions were givin me some credit for some work I did on a Heritage.  It looks awesome in Brandywine Kandy with silver and red stripin. The owner won first place in a showing in TO. 

Detroit auction $

Here's what some of my pieces brought in , impossible to predict,depends on the crowd...

"stained glass" $200....small red panel $70...woodgrained tin table $90 and that funny little piece that I was experimenting on with flourescent paint brought in $150.

a $20 mailbox got $50...and a $5 breadbox got $175 ....go figure !! and the last pic is of me and Darrin {from Ohio}. He calls me his "border brother" and we did this panel together and it brought in $330. He's a great guy and I think we'll make an annual "border brothers " piece.

Detroit '07

Well, the morning after Performance World in Toronto, I drove down to Detroit for the Autorama and thier Pinstriper's Jamboree. I stayed for 2 days and it was good to meet the people I only see once a year again. Somewhere around 200 pinstriper's ,airbrush artists, and painter's showed up over the 3 days of the show and $56,000. US was donated to a charity much like Children's Wish here in Canada .

                     

Performance World

Finally have some time to post . I spent Friday at the show in Toronto, it sure wasn't very busy. I think everybody went to Detroit . Unfortunately this year both shows ended up on the same weekend. I striped up a few trays they had there, met Herb Martinez {from California} and asked him why he "forgot" to add Canada in his new book Pinstripe Planet. I told him the next book better include a few stripers from up here. They didn't have an auction, but they are gonna try for next year. Craig{Thrall Pinstripes} from the Cobourg area did a good job setting it all up, they had lots of stuff to stripe ,just not a lot of people . I wasn't there Sat & Sun so maybe they were better. Here'a a few things I did there, a helmet for a girl that drives a racer, a tin tray, and the lettering is on a trunk lid they brought in, all the stripers that showed up were supposed to put something on it.  Craig is going to send me a pic of the finished piece and I'll post it when I get it. They plan on doing one every year.

show weekend

...haven't posted in a while, I've been busy getting stuff ready for the 2 shows this weekend. If anybody wants to stop by and chat , I'll be at Performance World in Toronto {International Centre} on Friday all day, and then I'll be at Cobo Hall in Detroit for the Autorama on Saturday & Sunday. I'll post some pics early next week.

been busy !!!

Been busy down in the basement finishing up some new panels, had to take time out to pack up for the International Centre flea market, made lots of contacts & met a lot of friends . I finished up an oval shaped panel that I did up for an old frame I picked up at the thrift store. It has a "bubble" shaped glass in a solid wood frame . I have a wartime hand-coloured photo of my Dad in another "bubble" frame except it's rectangular.

Pumpkinfest

Went up to Port Elgin yesterday to Pumpkinfest , gorgeous day , real good turnout of cars . There seems to be a ton of early 70's stuff showing up and there were at least 15 late 70's Lincoln Continentals. I'm glad I don't have to pay thier bill at the gas pumps ! I dropped off about 100 business cards in cars that I thought could really use a stripe or two ! That's the last major outdoor show up here for this year, boy ,that summer went fast ! Now I've got to get ready for my first teaching experience, I've got 6 "students" to teach the basics to next Saturday . Plus I'll see if I can get some paint on that Nose art this week !

not a good thing

I just found out that this year, Performance World in Mississauga & the Detroit Autorama are happening on the SAME WEEKEND !!! I know they were tryin' to organize a "panel jam" called Brush Rush North I think,  for Perf. World this year . Well they may as well forget even tryin' to have an event for pinstriper's if they are gonna try and compete with Detroit. Hey, I'll be the first to say you should support the hobby up here first , BUT , I've met some nice people in Detroit and only get to see them once a year. There's striper's there from all over the world , it's a great time, for a good cause , and I don't plan on missin' it. Actually , I think the change of date was done by the Autorama, not Mississauga but having them both on the same weekend is probably gonna' hurt them both. Maybe it's for this year only, we'll have to wait and see .
